The latest WhatsApp beta shows off a much-requested messaging feature

WhatsApp may soon save us from the embarrassment of our simple misspellings as a message editing feature for the app appears to be in the works.

We've all typed a message quickly, only to hit send and instantly realize that a good chunk of the words are misspelled. You can try to correct the error with a follow-up message, but at this point the damage is done and everyone can see a permanent record of the time you misspelled "at".

WhatsApp may soon allow you to fix such bugs as a message editing feature is offered in the latest beta version of WhatsApp (via WABetaInfo). Although the feature itself is not yet available, an in-app notification was discovered in the latest update that notifies recipients with a message stating that "This message has been edited for everyone in this chat on the latest version of WhatsApp." .

You still can't edit messages in the app, even in the public beta, but the notification suggests that this tool will be added to WhatsApp soon. That being said, remember to take this information with a grain of salt, as there is always a chance that the feature will be removed, regardless of how long it is in development.

How will editing WhatsApp messages work?

Because the feature isn't even part of WhatsApp's beta, we don't yet know how it will work in practice, but early signs suggest you'll have a short window (around 15 minutes) to edit a message after it's been released. published. .mail . Any message you edit will get an "Edited" label, so people know you edited what you wrote, though it's unclear if the app will keep a record of what the message said before it was changed.

In addition to helping you correct mistakes, editing messages can help you avoid confusion in your communication. If you've written a post that isn't very clear, you can edit it and fix any issues before people notice.

This isn't the first time a message editing feature has been mentioned for WhatsApp, so the release could be coming very soon. We'll have to wait and see what's announced for the app in the coming months, but hopefully our big toe bugs will soon be a thing of the past.
