Twitter will soon let you speed up and slow down video and voice tweets

Twitter tests a new option that will give users more control over video and voice tweets.

Just as Netflix and other platforms introduced the ability to speed up or slow down playback, Twitter is experimenting with new variable playback speed options.

Although the new feature is just starting to roll out, this isn't the first time we've heard about scalable read speeds on Twitter. In the second half of last year, the new feature was known, but this is the first time that Twitter has notified about it.

For now, only Android users, like people using the web version of Twitter, can take advantage of variable playback speeds, though Twitter says iOS users haven't forgotten.

Twitter shared news about the new options that were incorporated in a tweet through its support account:

At 2x, 1x, 0.5x… now let's try more playback speed options for videos. Certain apps on Android and on the web are going to have different sets of playback speeds to select from, so they can slow down or speed up videos and voice tweets. pic.twitter.com/OfGPf4F6OgFebruary 8, 2022

Faster! Decelerate!

As seen in the image shared by Twitter, there are many options to select when it comes to playback speed. Video and audio can be slowed down to a quarter speed, which can be used to notice details in videos that are impossible to see when viewed at full speed.

Playback can be sped up to twice the speed, too, and seems like a great option for anyone pressed for time, or with a limited attention span. Twitter issued a statement to The Verge revealing the full scope of content that can be monitored this way: "Tweet video, amplify video, voice tweet, video DM, and live video replay, depending on your platform."

As this is currently a test, the option may not be available on your account now. Twitter has given no indication of when a larger release can be expected, so, as is often the case, it's just a matter of sitting back and waiting.
