Twitter launches new audio tweet feature for iOS users
Remember when 140 was a significant number for Twitter users? Well, that number returns, but this time, it's not the maximum number of characters in a tweet, but the length of the duration of an ``audio tweet''. Twitter has announced, via Twitter of course, that audio clips up to 140 seconds long can be recorded and attached to tweets posted on the platform. This new way of tweeting is currently only available to iOS users, starting with some and followed by all iOS users "in the coming weeks." There is no word on when the feature will roll out to Android users.

You can tweet a Tweet. But now you can tweet your voice! Rolling out to iOS today, you can now record and tweet with audio. pic.twitter.com/jezRmh1dkD17 June 2020 According to the Twitter blog, "sometimes 280 characters isn't enough" and therefore audio tweets are tested to "add a more human touch to the way you We use Twitter" and for that "certain nuances of conversation lost in translation."

How to post audio tweets

To find out if you can scream into a void, tap the ``pen'' icon in the bottom right corner of the Twitter timeline to compose a new tweet. If you see a waveform icon next to the camera, you're one of the lucky ones. To record a message, press the waveform icon, then the large "record" button. Allow Twitter to access your microphone (if notified) and speak for up to 140 seconds. Then press "Done" in the upper right corner of the panel.

Your Twitter profile picture will "be added as a static image in your audio attachment and won't update if you update your profile picture," which may not appeal to everyone. To listen to audio tweets on your timeline, simply hit the play button on the account holder's profile photo. Twitter says that "playing will start in a new window pinned to the bottom of your timeline" and will continue to play in the background even if you quit the social media app. Voice functionality is currently only available for new messages - users will not be able to reply or retweet with an audio clip, most likely checking the spread of abuse and harassment.
