The MCU Fantastic Four movie could be in years, here's why

The Fantastic Four's arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is highly anticipated, but don't expect Marvel's First Family to show up anytime soon. That's according to Deadline reporter Justin Kroll, who revealed that Marvel Studios had just begun meeting with writers about the next project. Delving into what he knew on his personal Twitter account, Kroll said it would take a while for cameras to roll on set, so he shouldn't expect to hear any concrete news from Marvel for a while. Kroll's information comes after Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph alleged that former X-Men star Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Sue Storm from the Fantastic Four. According to the news outlet, production of the MCU film would largely take place here due to Australia's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Here is the tweet in question:

All I'm going to say is that Marvel has just started meeting with the writers for FANTASTIC FOUR, there is no script and it will be some time before shooting begins on this movie on February 21, 2021. More info

When will the Fantastic Four arrive in the MCU?

It's hard to say. We know a Fantastic Four movie is coming, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been keeping a low profile for now. Last December, Feige confirmed that Mister Fantastic and his company would be getting a standalone film, but given the sheer volume of the MCU Phase 4 slate, it won't be anytime soon. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home director Jon Watts is also attached to the project, but is currently busy with the third installment of the webslinger. With filming on this movie in full swing, and a lot of post-production and pressure directing it once it's finished, any sign of a Fantastic Four movie starting is still a long way off. Rumors of a Reed Richards WandaVision cameo have also been circulating online in recent weeks. Fan speculation intensified when Monica Rambeau revealed that she had an "aerospace engineer" friend who could help SWORD get into the Hex, Wanda's barrier around the city of Westview, and many had speculated that it was none other than Mister Fantastic. However, WandaVision episode 7 seemed to pour cold water on this theory, when Monica's Touch was revealed to be an original character named Major Goodner. Whenever the Fantastic Four come to the MCU, it will be the fourth cinematic iteration of the group. After an unreleased film, two mixed offerings starring Jessica Alba and Chris Evans, and a critical release from Josh Trank in 2015, hoping the MCU version will be a lucky fourth time for the bunch.
