Samsung Galaxy S22 series can (*13*) rival technology with iPhone 13 ceramic shield

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is expected in the coming weeks, and the latest leak suggests that all three members of the series will come with new tempered glass to protect against drops and other damage.

A new leak from popular tipster Ice Universe has stated that the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature a new technology called Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+.

We've seen Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on existing smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and we think this new Plus version will be an improvement in some way. Unfortunately, we don't know exactly what it will be.

Corning has yet to reveal this technology, and Ice Universe has not provided any details on what kind of protection this new update will provide.

Standard Victus technology is marketed as technology that can mean your smartphone is more likely to survive drops of up to 2 meters. Expect similar stats with slight improvements on these new smartphones.

The Ice Universe post does not say whether we will see this technology on the front, back or both sides of the smartphones. The fact that the source did not mention this crucial element makes us think that it may be on both sides of the phone.

Previous leaks have suggested that all three variants of the Galaxy S22 series will have glass backs. Both the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus featured plastic designs, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra was the only variant to be made with glass on the back.

Analysis: although it will not be only for Samsung

If Corning makes this new technology, it probably won't be exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S22 line. We could see it on many more phones as early as 2022.

Existing Victus technology debuted on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but made its way to a variety of other smartphones quickly after it was introduced in mid-2020.

This may mean that we see Victus Plus in other upcoming devices such as Oppo Find X4 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Ultra and Sony Xperia 1 IV.

Apple's iPhone lineup (including the iPhone 13) comes with a different technology called Ceramic Shield, but it's made by the same Corning that makes Gorilla Glass. Apple claims its technology is tougher than any other smartphone, but that may not be the case when Victus+ hits the market.
