Samsung's next foldable phone could use an under-display camera
If a new rumor is to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 could have an under-display camera. This means that users could finally say goodbye to annoying notches and hole-punch cutouts on the screens of their foldable phones. While it's always helpful to take rumors with a pinch of salt, there is some evidence to back up these claims. Pocket Now, which first reported on the rumour, credited a "pretty reliable" source and the claims would match the patents we know Samsung has received for the under-display cameras. Hopefully, Samsung's design can improve on the current quality of under-display cameras; otherwise we'd prefer a crop to a less sharp image every time. We'll have to wait and see when the Galaxy Z Fold 3 launches.

How would the camera under the screen work?

The cameras under the screen are still quite new and the technology has not yet been perfected. The general idea is that the camera works in a similar way to normal, simply taking pictures from behind a screen instead of in front of it. The ZTE Axon 20 5G is the first commercially available smartphone with an under-display camera, but it didn't wow us with its image quality in our review. So far, we haven't seen the technology in other products yet. Samsung was awarded an under-display camera patent back in January, which could give us a hint as to how it would work on the Z Fold 3. Its design sees two different panels that make up one screen, a large one that takes up most of the space and one much smaller than fills the space where a camera bezel would normally be.

However, for now, this is just speculation. We'll probably have to wait until the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is officially unveiled to know for sure.
