Resident Evil Village is almost here, but ahead of its release we heard how it might fit into the larger Resident Evil franchise as a whole. While Resident Evil Village is the eighth main game in the series (with VIII in the highlighted title, clearly referencing "8"), it also appears to be the second game in a trilogy. This rumor comes from Aesthetic Gamer aka Dusk Golem on Twitter, someone with access to information at Capcom who has shared reliable information about Resident Evil Village in the past, even before the game was announced. According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil Village is meant to be the second game in a trilogy, as there are things in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard that will make more sense after going through Resident Evil Village, other than saying it's happening. a direct sequel was decided early in development.
(1/2) I guess to summarize the last few tweets simply and spoiler-free, keep in mind that Village, which is a direct sequel to RE7, was decided early enough, there are things included in RE7 that will make more sense after RE8. (2/2) RE7 > RE8 > RE9 have a connected and planned story, as they all ended up in development together. I also suspect that this is why they want to go beyond the numbered titles after RE9, to tell more stories independently. instead of having to plan stories ahead but it's great here Apr 11, 2021 More info
