Overwatch 2 delay is Bobby Kotick's fault, says producer

Overwatch producer Tracy Kennedy has blamed Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick for the problems that plagued the game and the development of its sequel.

On Twitter, Kennedy said that Kotick would pass random projects to the Overwatch team, urging them to work overtime, only to get those projects cancelled.

This also resulted in a loss of development time for Overwatch 2, which would explain not only its delay but also the lack of news about it.

This comes after Kotick told GamesBeat that Activision's stock price drop was mainly due to Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 delays, rather than the sexual harassment allegations and the lawsuit.

(*2*) Oh wait, it's true that you're hiding behind scapegoats because you're a coward, my mistake. Everyone will remember you as a foodie joke and there is nothing you can do to change that. We survived you and we won. Goodbye 👋 January 19, 2022

Kotick has faced almost constant criticism during his tenure as Activision's CEO, though complaints have recently focused on his handling of the aforementioned sexual harassment allegations.

A Wall Street Journal report even alleges that he deliberately covered up several instances of abuse within the company and once threatened to kill his assistant.

Numerous Activision employees and members of the general public called for Kotick's firing. He now believes that he could leave the company once the Microsoft acquisition is complete, although he will likely receive a substantial payment for his departure.

As for Overwatch 2, the game was announced in late 2019 and has barely been talked about since. There have been sporadic updates on things like new character designs, but all indications are that the game is suffering from development issues.

Aside from the lack of a release date, launch platforms have not been confirmed either, although it is believed that they will at least come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
