Oppo could run on its own MagSafe-style magnetic charging technology
The MagSafe magnetic charging and accessory system was one of the new features Apple introduced with the iPhone 12, and now we're starting to see Android phone makers come up with their own alternatives. Oppo appears to be the latest manufacturer to party, according to unofficial renderings from Oyprice (via GSMArena). We can't know where these images came from, so treat them with a degree of caution, but it wouldn't be a surprise for Oppo to look to expand its accessory offering like this. The images show a simplified circular charger, with a small USB-C port to connect the charger to the mains. At the moment, we don't have any other specifications or details, such as what kind of charging speed could be offered.

To Realme

Unless Oppo reveals everything they are working on in the very near future, Realme will release its own version of MagSafe to the world. It's called MagDart and we expect to see it appear alongside the Realme Flash on August 3. Realme has suggested that its MagDart technology could outperform some wired solutions in terms of charging speeds, so we're eagerly awaiting what's on offer, though it's not yet clear if these devices will be available internationally. When you consider that Realme started out as a sub-brand of Oppo, it makes sense that they still share some technology, and whatever Oppo is working on could end up looking very similar to MagDart when we see it.

Analysis: wireless charging is going mainstream

12 iPhone Mini

(Image credit: Apple / TechRadar) Magnetic clip chargers were around before the iPhone 12, but Apple has done what Apple tends to do by making the technology more convenient and reliable than before, and packaging it in a way that attract consumers. The magnetic attachments used by MagSafe are going to be used for a lot of accessories, Apple shows promise, but it's the wireless charging plug-ins that have dominated so far in terms of MagSafe-branded products. Wireless charging speeds top out at 15W with MagSafe, which is by no means the fastest on the market, but is at least respectable. We expect Realme and Oppo to work beyond that in terms of charging rates. With charging speeds finally breaking the lows and the ease and convenience of magnetic attachments, wireless charging is finally becoming more than just a nice perk, and something that may well replace wired charging entirely for many users in today's world. the world.
