Oculus Quest 2 reveal leaked, and there's a lot to be excited about

The Oculus Quest 2 has been leaked, by Facebook no less. Numerous outlets, including IGN, are reporting that the headset's existence and some of its specs were posted on Facebook's Blueprints site (the link was here, but the post has now been removed). A video showing the headphones has been removed, but has been captured from the internet and reposted on YouTube. The next edition of the standalone VR headset is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, and the controllers have improved ergonomics. Oculus Quest 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor. The new screen has 50% more pixel density than the first Oculus Quest headset, with Facebook calling it "the highest-resolution headset they've ever made," and the Quest 2 has 6GB of RAM (vs. 4GB for the original unit). In terms of storage, up to 256 GB is available, depending on the video. The headset will also feature 3D positional sound. Just like with the original headset, you can use the Oculus Link cable to connect the Quest 2 to a desktop gaming PC and increase the number of games available to play. It appears that no price or release date has been revealed yet, so Facebook still has a lot to reveal. It's unclear when the reveal would go live, but the annual Oculus Connect event, now known as Facebook Connect, is scheduled to take place this week on September 16.

A big step forward for virtual reality

A follow-up to the Oculus Quest is an extremely attractive proposition. We praised the first VR headset in our review and praised its functionality as an all-in-one VR solution. “With a screen that rivals the Rift, it's hard to find fault with the Quest. It's lightweight, reasonably priced, and adapts to rooms of all sizes in minutes, with no equipment required.
