No Time to Die's Lashana Lynch Opens Up About Her Key Role In New Bond Movie
James Bond is a relic. It's an angle that movies have experimented with time and time again, especially during Daniel Craig's time as the character. In 2020's No Time To Die, as Bond returns from a quiet life in Jamaica, he meets a new MI6 colleague who is younger and at least as driven as he is: his partner 00 agent Nomi (Lashana Lynch). She probably saw her mock Bond's wobbly knee in her trailer. We asked Lynch about Nomi's relationship with Bond. “I will say that this is an evolving issue,” she said. We spoke to Lynch six months ago, shortly before No Time To Die was postponed. Its current release date is set for November 12 in the UK and November 19 in the US. "You see them at first as two very different people who have to work together in a way they've never worked together before, but as they evolve their dynamism and the way they approach work and the way they relate to each other he becomes really understanding and respectable. He learns a lot from her, and she certainly learns a lot of experience from him." No Time To Die is the first Bond film for director Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation), and his creative vision is part of what sparked Lynch's interest in the role. “I was excited by the conversations I had with Barbara Broccoli and Cary during the audition,” she says. "They seemed to really want to create a badass ninja. Why would you leave this? "I'm the one coming into a quintessentially English and British franchise, but I bring something quite unique and very authentic to the franchise. I knew that if they took me on board, I could bring something special to the table. which hopefully they've never seen before, so let's see." The Bond series has a patchy history when it comes to portraying women in this universe; you don't have to go any further than 2012's Skyfall to find trouble on that front. We asked Lynch how her character compares to how women have previously appeared on the show.

(Image credit: Danjaq/MGM/Eon Productions) "I think with the current women's agency, the way they see themselves and the way they present themselves as being, along with the women I've been with been in touch, completely genuine and completely knowing that they are enough. You see it oozes through the characters, both the female characters that have existed within the franchise, and new ones like myself. You just have that feeling of empowerment that is really important to feel when you go to work, but also important to show younger generations to come." We asked Lynch what it was like working with Fukunaga: His previous work on True Detective makes him an attractive choice for this latest film starring the version of the Craig's character, and being the one to introduce Nomi in the series. “Cary had a unique but very driven way of approaching the script, she reached out to directing and reached out to talk to her actors. I can say that he brought a real classic touch to our current Bond movie, and it feels like his own. The independent history brings a real touch of old cinema which I think is a real nod to the early Skip movies. “The stunt work was a big part of the film's appeal for Lynch.” He I always wanted to do action, I always wanted to play someone physically powerful and completely competent. Like I said, I asked the stunt team at the beginning of training if they could turn me into a ninja, they said, "yes," and that's who I am for life now! I feel like I have certified ninja status as well as 00 status." The creation of Nomi was a collaborative process between Lynch and the film's producers and writers. "I knew who Nomi would be because I had direct conversations with Barbara Broccoli and Cary about who they wanted me to be, but also who they wanted me to be," he says. "And on top of that, I talked to our writers and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has collaborated wonderfully with us. And what I saw was a woman who had free agency, that she was powerful, that she was committed and that she believed herself to be the best person in MI6. . "She is a black woman, she is forward-thinking. She is unique and has many unique selling points that advance her career. So, when I saw it on the page, it was very well written and I didn't feel like I had to add anything too crazy. I was there to take it, and I did my best to achieve what they had already created."

Phones with no time to die

(Image credit: HMD Global) We're chatting to Lynch because he's the face of Nokia's campaign as the Official Bond Phone Partner of No Time To Die. In the film, he will see a variety of Nokia phones: the classic Nokia 3310, the Nokia 7.2 and the recently launched Nokia 8.3 5G. We asked HMD Global's Juho Sarvikas if there are any devices on the phone in the film. "The phone is the device. If you look at the versatile imaging solutions we have in our lineup, or if you look at our unique Android promise of purity, security, and up-to-date, it gives you the whole secret of what the agent is." Hopefully, Bond will also bring a gun. If. HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, is the official partner of No Time To Die. The Nokia 8.3 5G launched today and can be pre-ordered here.
