Less than three months after leaving beta, Microsoft's Chromium-based Edge browser has surpassed Firefox to become the world's second most popular web browser, Bleeping Computer reported. As of March 2020, Microsoft Edge had 7,59% of the browser market according to NetMarketShare, far from Google Chrome, which is by far the most popular with 68,5%.
(Image credit: NetMarketShare) This finally puts Microsoft Edge ahead of Mozilla's Firefox, previously Chrome's biggest competitor, but now in third place with just 7.19% of the browser's audience. Of course, Microsoft Edge's numbers would likely be even higher without the 5,6% of users still using Internet Explorer 11, putting the older browser in fourth place ahead of Apple's Safari browser, which only has 3 % of market share. As for why people started flocking to the new and improved Microsoft Edge, there are a number of reasons: firstly, it's gotten a lot faster lately, it'll stop you from downloading adware and cryptomers, and it'll finally let you ditch Bing. by Google.
