Microsoft warns that Windows 10 update interrupts Office updates

Microsoft has warned Windows 10 users that recent updates have a number of bugs. There are reports that one of the flaws prevents people from updating Office products due to a certificate loss issue. After downloading the October 2020 Patch Tuesday updates, some Windows 10 users received an error message saying "Office 365 file download failed, error =" when trying to apply the latest updates updated with Office. Microsoft has yet to reveal a fix for the problem, which means users need to uninstall the faulty Windows Update, then update Office, and then reinstall the Windows patch. Microsoft engineer David James tweeted that the problem appears to be caused by Windows 10 updates causing certification failures, preventing Memcm and Configuration Manager from downloading Office updates.

Update rejected

Unfortunately for Microsoft, the Office update bug isn't the only problem users have recently encountered with their Windows fixes. There have also been reports of Windows 10 October fixes causing File Explorer issues and even the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. Microsoft has not commented on these system crash issues, but has admitted that user and system certificates can be lost during the upgrade process. "This mostly happens when managed devices are updated using out-of-date packages or media through an update management tool such as Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager," explains a Microsoft Support Document. "It can also happen when using outdated physical media or ISO images that do not have the latest updates integrated." Microsoft recommends that users install patches for their operating system using the official Windows Update service, rather than any other method, to reduce the risk of problems. Via Windows Latest
