Mercedes gives us a tempting first look at its "most efficient model of all time"

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its "most efficient model of all time" ahead of the official unveiling of the new electric vehicle at CES 2022 in January.

Called the Vision EQXX, it appears to be a sporty entry in the brand's burgeoning EQ lineup, following the launch of the Mercedes EQS earlier this year, which will "explore new frontiers of efficiency."

According to a recent press release issued by Mercedes, the Vision EQXX will feature "advancements to all elements of its advanced electric powertrain," including the use of "lightweight engineering." , durable materials and a barrage of smart efficiency measures."

While that sounds like typically superficial marketing jargon, company boss Markus Schafer previously revealed that the Vision EQXX will have a tempting range of up to 1000 km (620 miles). For an electric vehicle, this is a leading figure in the market.

A change of style

The first teaser image of the car (above) suggests that the Vision EQXX could also revolutionize the brand's design. From what we can tell this is unlike any Mercedes we've seen before, closer to the contours of an Aston Martin DB5 or Robert Pattinson-era Batmobile than an aggressive German tourer.

Still, we haven't seen the Vision EQXX in all its electric glory yet, so we'll be waiting for more appropriate comparisons for now.

That said, we know the Vision EQXX will have to come with some pretty exceptional performance specs if it's to deliver on the brand's promise of being the "most efficient Mercedes-Benz ever."

The EQS is already an incredibly agile machine, offering plenty of range (we comfortably covered 400 miles on a single charge during our time with the machine) and a host of futuristic interior technologies, while the recently announced AMG trim up the ante even further. .

Then there's also the all-new Mercedes EQE electric sedan, a more compact and athletic take on the standard EQS, comparable to the existing CLS range.

So it's a mystery where the Vision EQXX will fit into the brand's ever-growing electric range.

It will clearly focus on aerodynamics and range, although whether that will increase or reduce cost compared to its electric siblings is still unclear.

Mercedes plans to officially lift the lid on the Vision EQXX when its booth opens at CES 2022 on January 5. So we'll probably have more information next month when we hit the field in Las Vegas.
