mSecure | LaComparacion Looking for the best password manager? mSecure is worth a closer look. This powerful password manager works seamlessly on all your devices. Thanks to a recent redesign, the interface is extremely intuitive and makes it easy to organize your data. In our mSecure review, we'll help you decide if this is the right security software for you.

Features and Utilities

For starters, mSecure covers all the essentials you need from a password manager. There's no limit to the number of entries you can keep, and built-in categories let you store more than just passwords. All posts support custom fields, and you can also separate posts into groups instead of individual tags. The password generator included in mSecure works well, but it wasn't our favorite. There is no option to force it to produce human readable words. As a result, each password is a truly random string that is difficult to type if you haven't turned on auto-completion. In particular, you also cannot access the password generator without creating a new record in mSecure.

You can sync new data entries across all your devices using the mSecure Cloud, Dropbox, or your home Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, the software allows you to create encrypted backup copies of your database at any time, which can be transferred to all devices.

Install

Getting started with mSecure is quick and easy. You only need to enter your email and a master password to start the software for the first time. From there, you can import recordings from a CSV file or restore a backup database created by mSecure to another device. Note, however, that mSecure cannot easily import records from another password manager without first copying them to an unsecure CSV file.

Interface and performance

MSecure's mobile and desktop apps have recently undergone a complete overhaul, so they now have a sleek, modern user interface. One of the best things added by mSecure is the automatic upload of logos when you create an online account. This makes it very easy to find the entry for a specific connection, such as Netflix or Amazon, when you scroll through their database. We also liked that mSecure added flexibility to the data entry process. You can not only add custom fields to each individual record, but also redesign templates for entire categories of data.

The Windows mSecure desktop app (Image credit: mSecure) The only major thing we found missing from mSecure is a way to securely share passwords. While you can categorize login credentials into groups, they are only intended for your organization. Unfortunately for families and teams, this means that mSecure is only suitable for individual use.

Security

mSecure stores your data locally on your device and offers several options to ensure that it is not compromised. The platform allows you to set a time of inactivity, after which the session will be automatically closed. You can also choose a self-destruct configuration, which will destroy your database after several unsuccessful login attempts. We just prefer to see two-factor authentication, but self-destruct works as long as you have a backup of your database on another device.

mSecure 6

mSecure includes auto-lock and auto-destroy settings. (Image credit: mSecure) If you take advantage of synchronization, the security of your data becomes much more risky. mSecure offers its own cloud service in part because the company doesn't believe that services like Google and Dropbox are completely safe from hackers. But it is not clear that the mSecure cloud is more protected. So one of the handiest features of this platform is also potentially the most vulnerable.

Support

mSecure provides email support only through an online ticketing system. When we sent an email, the company responded to us the next day. If you need more immediate assistance, the company's website includes a detailed knowledge base. There's even a mSecure user forum - most threads are over two years old, but you can easily search the threads for answers to a recurring problem.

Packages and prices

mSecure offers a free plan option and a paid option. The free plan includes all the password manager essentials, like unlimited data entries and a password generator. It can also be used on desktop computers and mobile devices.

The biggest thing it adds is synchronization between your devices, ensuring that your secure data is always up to date. This plan also adds an autocomplete feature and allows you to customize the included data entry templates.

Competition

If secure password sharing is important to you, LastPass is worth a look. This popular password manager offers free sharing with another user. You can share passwords with an unlimited number of users for as little as € 3 per month. We also like that LastPass includes multi-factor authentication for added security. However, keep in mind that a monthly subscription is much more than a long-term mSecure lifetime payment plan.

Final verdict

mSecure is a good password manager that makes it easy to keep recordings on multiple devices. We liked the redesigned interface and the ability to fully customize the data fields and category templates. We'd love to see mSecure implement a way to securely share passwords rather than just syncing them across your own devices. But, even without this feature, mSecure is an affordable password manager that is good enough for most individual users.
