LG's best OLED display technology will be in every new TV

LG Display has confirmed that all new OLED displays produced in its factories will offer improved performance and brightness now that the company has completed the transition to its more efficient OLED.EX technology.

A statement from LG confirmed that it had completed the transition to the new technology during the second quarter of 2022, which means that all new panels it produces from now on will feature OLED EX.

LG, which supplies panels to the likes of Hisense, Sony, Panasonic, Philips and Vizio, as well as its own branded TVs, says that OLED.EX offers up to 30% more brightness than regular OLED screens.

The technology uses deuterium, a substance that is an isotope of hydrogen in atomic structure but contains an extra neutron particle (hence the nickname "heavy water" when water is spiked with deuterium instead of the more common protium version). of hydrogen).

Deuterium replaces the more common hydrogen in the creation of OLED TVs, allowing for an increase in brightness. OLED.EX panels also use new algorithms to stabilize OLED pixels, enabling the company's panels to accurately predict and trigger lighting patterns from millions of pixels.

LG first unveiled its OLED.EX technology in December last year and many industry watchers see it as a response to Samsung's QLED technology, with TVs with rival panels starting to appear on our list of the best TVs.

Analysis: Cyber Monday shoppers need to be smart about new and improved OLED TV tech

While all OLED TVs made with LG panels from now on are likely to feature upgraded displays, it's worth remembering that current stock on retailers' shelves may have been assembled before the switch or use older panels in stock.

With that in mind, it's worth doing your research and perhaps checking with your chosen retailer to find out if that OLED TV you have in mind may have an older or newer panel before buying.
