Konami Confirms Metal Gear Solid 35th Anniversary Site Is Fake

Sorry folks, we have confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid 35th Anniversary site is a fake.

"This site is not Konami's site," a Konami spokesperson told TRG. "We are currently considering how to manage this site."

The fake site appeared on April 1, with the home screen displaying a Metal Gear Solid exclamation point with "35th" written below it. Make some believe that news of a Metal Gear Solid game is on the way.

However, the site was suspicious, not only because it appeared on April Fools' Day; signed up through a proxy protection service called Dreamhost. The other Konami pages are registered with a company called MarkMonitor, so this disparity has raised questions.

If you check the site now, it has been updated with details of a "Metal Gear Solid 35th Anniversary" NFT auction. This wouldn't immediately raise red flags, as Konami has auctioned off NFTs in the past.

But don't panic too much, Metal Gear fans, because it looks like Konami has something in the works for the July 13th anniversary. Speaking generally about Metal Gear Solid's 35th anniversary, the spokesperson told TRG: "Say it right now."

Konami's comments seem to suggest it has something up its sleeve, but whether it's the coveted Metal Gear Solid 6 remains to be seen.

A new Metal Gear Solid game isn't entirely out of reach, after all, the developer didn't abandon the series and released Metal Gear Survive back in 2018, which received mixed reviews.

However, since Hideo Kojima is no longer at Konami, we imagine a new Metal Gear game could be quite different from the series we know and love.

Also, there are plenty of directions the developer could take the series in, given that Metal Gear games don't usually follow a strict timeline. We could even see a remake of the first games (or a few games) in the series, bringing them to modern audiences, like Ubisoft is doing with the Splinter Cell remake.

We'd be very happy with a remastered version of the original Metal Gear games, perhaps with dialogue voiced by the modern cast of the series. Perhaps with some tweaking to bring the MSX game in line with later entry canon,

We'll likely learn more about what Konami has planned for the anniversary in the coming months. Let's hope it's something juicy.
