Huawei accepts 40 5G contracts

Huawei has overcome its recent difficulties by signing up more mobile operators as 5G customers.

The Chinese telecom equipment giant had signed 40 5G business deals by the end of March and has already shipped more than 45,000 5G base stations.

Rotating CEO Ken Hu confirmed these figures during a speech at the Huawei Analyst Summit in his hometown of Shenzhen, where he forecast 2.8 million 5G users here by the end of 2025.

He added that it is the first generation of mobile networks in which the development of devices has kept pace with the development of networks. Huawei will be a major player in both markets, competing with Ericsson and Nokia in infrastructure, and Apple and Samsung in smartphones.

Huawei's progress was thwarted by hostility from the US government, which banned the use of the company's equipment on US 5G networks for national security reasons. Huawei repeatedly denied the allegations, even going after the US government, but that didn't stop Washington from pressing allies to take a similar position.

However, concerns are easing as the EU urges member states to share their cybersecurity data rather than ban a single provider, while Germany is keen to promote provider and vendor diversity. strengthens security requirements for all vendors, not just Huawei. It is believed that the UK will take a similar approach when a report is released later this month.

And it looks like there hasn't been a huge impact on the business. Despite a modest decline in carrier revenue, total revenue increased by a fifth on the back of strong smartphone sales. And as the demand for 5G equipment is expected to increase in the coming months and years, Huawei will be sure that revenue will continue to grow.
