Facebook cancels large-scale physical events until June 2021

After canceling its F8 developer conference due to the coronavirus outbreak in February, Facebook has announced that it will no longer host local events as an alternative. Instead, the social media giant plans to make a series of updates throughout the year, with the first coming soon, though the company has yet to provide an exact date. Facebook has provided more details on how it will reach developers and customers with product news and announcements in a statement, saying: "Because we can't meet in person for F8 this year, Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook executives will host a series of updates throughout the year to share what we're working on to help people log in, as well as updates to our developer, if applicable."

Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg also announced that the company would require most of its employees to work from home until at least the end of May. In addition to its employees continuing to work remotely, the company is also canceling all large-scale physical events it had planned with 50 or more people through June 2021. Zuckerberg explained the company's reasoning behind this decision in an article on the social network, which says: “Even beyond this next period, the advice of health experts indicates that it will not be advisable to gather large groups of people for any period of time. Given this, we are canceling all major physical events that we had planned with 50 or more people through June 2021. Some of these events will be hosted as virtual events and we will share more details about that soon. . In addition, we are also extending our non-commercial travel policy through at least June of this year. Other tech companies, including Microsoft, are now planning to host their events virtually, and it now looks like Facebook will take a similar approach, at least for the foreseeable future. Via CNET
