The massive Diablo 4 leak gives us our best look at the game yet (*two*)

Over 40 minutes of Diablo 4 test footage has leaked online, giving us our most comprehensive look at the upcoming action RPG yet.

Taken from what looks like a private test build of Diablo 4, the video has been shared on social media. It encompasses two videos that together clock in at 43 minutes. Unlike the recent batch of GTA 6 leaks, the images are covered with a watermark, indicating they were pulled from a private test and likely identifying the leak behind the images.

Blizzard hasn't confirmed that the leak is genuine, but the images resemble other Diablo 4 previews we've seen in the past. It shows a barbarian character running through a dungeon, fighting a variety of demonic enemies, and exploring an open world.

devil as you know him

The images show exactly what you would expect from a current generation Diablo game. It follows the familiar gameplay cycle of exploring dungeons, fighting demons, and collecting loot, as damage meters roll off enemies' heads and the player manages their inventory.

It looks quite dark and atmospheric as well. The Barbarian class has many attacks to choose from and the game's UI is minimal. We're even given a brief look at the character's skill tree and world map.

The images are clearly taken from an earlier version of the game. Many buildings lack textures, some icons still need to be inserted, and some sound effects are missing. Halfway through the 38-minute video, a short feedback poll even pops up asking the player how they feel about the game in its current state. With Diablo 4 releasing next year, expect a lot more work and tweaking before you get your hands on it.

Player reaction has been largely positive, with fans praising the leak's gritty visuals and heavy combat. That's reassuring after a Diablo 4 leak from last month revealed that a controversial Diablo 3 feature is making a comeback. At least we know that the upcoming RPG won't replicate Diablo Immortal's much-criticized microtransactions.

It may not be long before you get a glimpse of the game. Shortly after the leaked images were released, Blizzard announced a closed beta test for Diablo 4, inviting members of the community to test its content. This will be the game's first closed beta after an alpha test from friends and family went live last month.

In a blog post (opens in a new tab), Blizzard announced that it would be inviting a "limited number of Diablo players who have recently spent a lot of time playing the final experiences of Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo 3, and Diablo Immortal."

They will be able to try the game on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4. If you think you qualify, make sure you have enabled the "News & Special Offers" section in the "Privacy & Communication" menu of the Battle.net Launcher to secure your spot.
