Destiny 2's new season sees plenty of surprise returns, and it's out today

Destiny 2's new season has been officially revealed and sees the return of a fan-favorite location and many beloved weapons.

Bungie has withheld details of Destiny 2's final season, Season of the Haunted, until now, refusing to divulge any clues about its history or background. But a new trailer and blog post have given us a first taste of what's to come, including the return of the beloved location The Leviathan.

The trailer was supposed to land today, May 24, it came out a little earlier. PlayStation Japan released the trailer prematurely and finally revealed the secret. Bungie decided to officially release the trailer soon after, which you can check out below:

As for what happens in the season, it looks like things are going to get a little scary. The Leviathan, a massive world-devouring ship led by former Cabal Emperor Calus, has returned to the Moon. However, it seems that things have changed. It has been plagued by nightmares and the terrible Dark Faun, suggesting that things have gone a little awry.

With the return of Leviathan, it has also been confirmed that we will also see the return of some of the fan-favorite weapons. Destiny 2's Year 2 Season of Opulence focused on the Leviathan, so it's no surprise we're picking up weapons from this season. Both the Austringer hand cannon and the beloved sniper rifle return, both being some of the most memorable of their kind.

Elsewhere, Solar will receive its 3.0 facelift, which will allow players to customize their subclass, similar to how Void 3.0 was facelifted with the release of The Witch Queen. Some of the builds that came out were really wild, and it will be fascinating to see if the building creativity matches Solar's revamp.

All this without mentioning the next dungeon, which will be released on May 27.

Season of the Haunted is looking pretty good from what we've seen, and most importantly, there's not much of a wait. It will be released on May 24 at 11:00 am PST/ 2:00 pm EST/ 6:00 pm BST.
