Apple Cook CEO Comes Against US-China Tariffs

Apple CEO Tim Cook believes he presented US President Donald Trump with a "good argument" that planned tariffs on products made in China would have a negative impact on society.

Devices like the iPhone have "a back designed by Apple California, assembled in China," meaning the cost of the Cupertino-based company's products would be affected by the introduction of tariffs.

Pricing for various product lines, including AirPods, Apple Watch, and HomePod, is expected to take effect in September, with MacBooks and iPhones expected to follow later in the year.

Cook argued that these fees would not only affect Apple's economic contribution to the United States, but would also give its main competitor Samsung an advantage, as they would not be subject to the same fees.

"I thought I had made a very convincing argument, so I think about it," Trump said.

In a timely reminder to the US president, Apple released new claims last week that it would support up to 2.4 million jobs in the United States and could contribute directly to the United States. The US economy will reach 350 billion pounds by 2023.

Apple says it is dealing, throughout its supply chain, with 9,000 US suppliers, spending € 60 billion and creating 450,000 jobs. According to this report, 1.9 million jobs depend on the app economy, in part fueled by the iPhone.

In addition to its financial contribution, the company claims to present innovation and quality standards due to its high demands.
