Apple's canceled AirPower carpet featured in new video
You may remember the saga of the Apple AirPower charging mat, which was announced in late 2017 before a series of delays and potential cancellation — Apple officially admitted defeat on the device in March 2019. Now, a video has arrived. to the web, which supposedly shows one of the AirPower prototype models that Apple never managed to launch. Originally posted on Chinese social media, stills from the video were later shared by well-known tipster @laobaiTD. The images show a series of coils being squeezed together to activate the wireless charging functionality that AirPower was to provide, and perhaps hint at the issues Apple had with the device overheating. Although we cannot confirm the veracity of these images, they correspond to AirPower designs and patents that we have seen in the past. They're an interesting glimpse into what could have been with an all-in-one wireless charging solution from Apple.

(Image credit: @laobaiTD / BiliBili) The AirPower Mat's initial selling point was that it could charge up to three devices at once: an iPhone, a pair of AirPods, and an Apple Watch, for example. In the end, however, Apple failed to release it. Well, not in its original form anyway – we heard earlier this year that a proper AirPower mat might be in development, one that isn't all that ambitious in terms of design and functionality. , helping you meet the reliability standards set by Apple. Rumor has it that the latest version of AirPower could even be upgraded to USB-C instead of Lightning. We wouldn't invest too much in this speculation just yet, and Apple will want everything to be right if it ever releases AirPower version 2.0. We may hear more of that later this year - we expect the Apple Watch 6 to break in the coming months - and perhaps now is the perfect time to reveal something new in terms of Apple's official wireless charging solutions.
