Amazon to hire 150.000 temporary workers for Christmas this year

Amazon is hiring 150.000 employees in the United States in full-time, seasonal and part-time positions in its operations network before the holiday season.

A wide range of features, from packing and picking to sorting and shipping, are available for candidates of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Amazon says employees can earn, on average, more than €19 an hour depending on their position and location in the United States, with California, Illinois and Texas being the states with the most available jobs.

The news comes after Amazon announced it would increase its average starting wage for warehouse and delivery workers to more than €19 an hour from €18 an hour.

But if you don't reside in the United States, don't count yourself out.

Amazon's announcement comes as the retail giant has increased its UK hiring in recent years, with the move expected to bring its permanent UK workforce to 70,000.

Amazon said the move would make it one of the UK's largest private-sector employers, joining John Lewis and Alliance Boots, and surpassing the number of British military employees.

However, the move comes because many of the retail giant's employees are unhappy with its terms.

New York-based Amazon employees formed the first union in the company's history in July 2022, and German workers staged walkouts at seven fulfillment centers in May.

In August there was a strike at Amazon's largest UK distribution center in Tilbury, with workers claiming it was not addressing cost-of-living concerns.

However, some US Amazon workers are now expected to receive additional benefits, including signing bonuses ranging from €1,000 to €3,000 in some locations.
