Amazon quietly rolled out a Kindle feature users have been asking for for years
Amazon's Kindle eBook readers have never had the option to display the cover art on the device's lock screen as wallpaper... unless owners were able to jailbreak the Kindle. Instead, there was a small library of wallpapers that were automatically browsed by the device. However, Amazon quietly began rolling out a firmware update to add the option to do so a few days ago, and has now confirmed that the Display Cover feature will be available to most Kindle users worldwide in the coming weeks. To end! It's a feature Kindle fans have been asking for since the devices launched nearly a decade ago, so it's taking time. All three models of Amazon Kindle e-readers will receive this feature in the coming days, whether it's the basic Amazon Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, or Kindle Oasis, as long as it's running firmware 5.13.5. Please note that not all generations of Kindles are currently supported by Amazon and will not be able to be upgraded. The lucky ones to get the Display Cover option are the XNUMXth and XNUMXth generation Kindles, the XNUMXth and XNUMXth generation Paperwhites, and the XNUMXth, XNUMXth and XNUMXth generation Oasis devices. Amazon continues to support the seventh-generation Kindle Voyage, which will also receive the firmware update. When updated to the latest operating software (OS), your Kindle will display the cover of the book you're reading, with a toggle button to select the available feature in the device's settings panel. According to a report by the online publication Good Ereader, this feature will also display the cover art of downloaded eBooks, not just those purchased from the Kindle store. The Special Offers edition of the Kindle e-reader that is available in some markets (devices that serve ads to let customers buy cheaper e-readers) will unfortunately not benefit from the Display Cover feature. The firmware update is rolling out, so it should only be a matter of time before the Screen Cover option makes its way to a Kindle near you.
