5 new movies and shows on Indian OTT platforms this week
This past week was full of major trips to the Indian OTT space. This was understandable considering it was the country's Independence Day weekend. By comparison, this week was going to be a bit low-key. Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be new releases. In fact, we have an interesting mix. We start with Kaali Peeli Tales, an anthology. Then we have the Malayalam movie #Home. The highly anticipated Hindi movie 200 Halla Ho is also in the game. Tamil horror film Boomika is also raising hopes. We complete the list with the Telugu Tharagathi Gadhi Daati series.

As in the famous Android Kunjappan, the interplay of technology and human feelings is given a kind and playful treatment for which Malayalam cinema is well known. The movie is also about seeing a psychologist and how it's not something to be ashamed of. There is also a minor conspiracy that social media is both a blessing and a nightmare.

The series captures the spirit of daily life in and around the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh. He is a bright student, whose parents run a training center, but lacks motivation until he meets a student who turns his world upside down. The show takes viewers through the tender romance that unfolds in between and highlights the sweet little things and chaos of adolescence.

The story that enters is that of a group of women who enter a courthouse and lynch a gangster there. His target has reportedly raped and assaulted women and girls in the slums in various ways for about a decade. This is a real incident that happened in Nagpur. The film is based on this heartwarming story and remains mostly true with a few creative liberties here and there.

Shot in picturesque landscapes, the film stars Aishwarya Rajesh, whose recent OTT launch on another platform, Thittam Irandu, did not fare well. The movie was finished a long time ago. However, his exit has been blocked due to the pandemic. Interestingly, the film has a simultaneous release on Netflix and Star Vijay TV channel. Director Rathindran directed a segment in the recently released Tamil anthology Navarasa. He made a short film on the emotion of fear and it featured Siddharth and Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead.
