(*14*) 14 Pro models may not get a storage boost after all

Four (*14*) 14 models are expected to be introduced in mid-September, but there are still a lot of questions about what kind of updates we'll get.

One key spec that doesn't appear to be getting an update this year (despite previous rumors to the contrary) is storage space.

According to analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International (via MacRumors), the Pro versions of the (*14*) 14 will follow the lead of the current (*14*): specifically, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB .

There were rumors that Apple would increase the initial capacity of the (*14*) 14 Pro and the (*14*) 14 Pro Max, and the storage could even reach 2TB.

However, based on this latest information, it looks like it will be a case of "continue as you were" in terms of internal storage.

Small improvements

If you are currently looking to buy a (*14*) 13 or a (*14*) 13 mini, your options are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

They are expected to be the same again in (*14*) 14 equivalents (although the mini will be ditched in favor of a (*14*) 14 Max model, if rumors are to be believed).

Also, word on the street at Apple is that the (*14*) 14 and (*14*) 14 Max will use the same A15 Bionic processor as the (*14*) 13 lineup. If you're expecting a major upgrade from ( *14*) this year from Apple, you're probably going to be disappointed.

However, improvements in terms of camera performance are expected, both with the selfie camera and the rear camera, so there will be reasons to spend your money on a new model. Everything will be revealed by Apple in September, if it sticks to its usual release schedule of (*14*).

Analysis: cloudy with risk of diffusion

It would be nice to see Apple increase the available storage on iPhones this year, if only to differentiate them from previous ones. Storage prices continue to drop over time; remember that the (*14*) X five years ago was only available with 64GB or 256GB of internal storage.

However, it's also fair to say that internal storage isn't as important as it used to be: Spotify keeps your music collection in the cloud, Netflix keeps your movie collection in the cloud, and so on. There is not the same need to save files locally.

Also, cloud sync services like iCloud and Google Drive have gotten a lot better in recent years. Syncing photos and videos to the cloud is now easy to set up and everything is handled automatically in the background.

We still think there's a reason to keep high-capacity phones on sale: for all those movies and shows you want to sync to your device, to keep photos and videos close at hand and available, to install great games and queue up lots of podcasts. , for instance. Maybe next year we'll see that 2TB option appear.
