Intel 13th and 14th Gen processors could launch at a rate that worries AMD

Intel's Raptor Lake desktop processors could launch in just over six months, and these chips are rumored to provide a massive performance boost. Also, next-gen Meteor Lake could arrive right after 13th gen to put more pressure on AMD's Ryzen processors.

Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) has a new YouTube video that, among other topics, discusses Raptor Lake and its supposed release date, as well as the kind of performance boost we can expect from next-gen processors.

The leaker believes that we will see the arrival of Raptor Lake processors at the end of the third quarter of 2022, which probably means September. Interestingly, this echoes an earlier Twitter leak that also pointed to a Q13 debut for Intel's XNUMXth-gen chips.

Perhaps even more interesting is the reveal that MLID thinks Meteor Lake will land less than a year after Raptor Lake, which could mean August 2023 (maybe even a little earlier).

Note that this is the prediction for Raptor Lake desktop models, with mobile processors set to debut in laptops in QXNUMX.

MLID claims that with Raptor Lake we are seeing an 8-15% single-threaded performance improvement over Alder Lake, which is a commendable boost and sounds more optimistic than the recent claim (much more from the wave of Intel) of 'up to' a double-digit increase.

On multi-threaded workloads, we can expect a performance increase of 30% to 40%.

Overall, it looks pretty impressive for what is just a simple Alder Lake update, with no big changes to the formula. We already know that Intel plans to increase the efficiency of the cores with the flagship Raptor Lake chip, and in fact double them to 16, but the performance cores will remain with a configuration of 8.

Analysis: Will AMD be under a lot of pressure?

As we have seen recently, rumors have it that AMD has stepped up its intentions with the upcoming release of the next generation of Zen 4 with the aim of bringing out those Ryzen processors in QXNUMX. As we theorized earlier this month, this could be a reaction to the news that Raptor Lake could be coming in QXNUMX (which was raised in a previous rumor), and that Team Red could be aiming to steal the limelight from Intel.

However, while it is true that Raptor Lake is due in September, and Meteor Lake could follow in the summer of 2023, ramping up to 7nm and providing nearly as good a boost as Raptor Lake, according to MLID, though the 14th gen supposedly focus more on mobile processors, so AMD will have to do some serious work to keep up with that kind of pace of development.

While Ryzen has ruled the desktop CPU lately, Alder Lake has pushed Intel back since its release, and it seems like Team Blue really doesn't want to let the pressure go.
