The biggest (*11*) 11 update yet could be here sooner than you think

The big (*11*)11 update for 2022, known as 22H2 or alternatively "Sun Valley 2", is rumored to be coming to RTM, which means it's theoretically ready to go.

RTM stands for "Release to Manufacturing" and as the name suggests, it means that the software is finished and ready to be released, at least at first glance.

No other features are added after an RTM release is declared, but what happens is that everything is thoroughly tested and so development is still ongoing, but it's all about finding and fixing bugs and issues before of the full release.

According to (*11*) Latest, the RTM milestone is about to be reached for (*11*) 11, with information coming from the usual internal sources "familiar" with the progress of the OS. In fact, it should arrive in the next few weeks, so by the end of May, the RTM version could be here, in theory.

Analysis: The release date guessing game of (*11*) 11 22H2

Add a healthy dose of skepticism to that claim, as always, but in all honesty, it makes sense given what we've recently heard from Microsoft. Namely, the latest test version of (*11*)11 removed the desktop preview watermark, which generally indicates that Microsoft is ready to stop adding features and begin the testing and testing process mentioned above.

That said, the company was careful to make it clear that removing said watermark "doesn't mean we're done," so we're clearly not on the cusp of a (*11*)11 22H2 release; but moving to RTM in the near future, perhaps even by the end of the month, seems like a realistic possibility. Of course, if it's not May, it looks like RTM could happen in June.

As for whether that means the 22H2 update could arrive sooner rather than later this year, that's hard to say. The testing process can sometimes take a long time, so it's entirely possible that even if RTM is hit in late May as expected here, it could take months and months of reworking and tweaking, and we could still end up with an output. . as late as, say, September or October 2022.

That seems to be the kind of time frame that the rumor mill favors these days, but again, we don't know anything for sure, and it will all depend on exactly how well the (*11*)11 debugging works. they seemed to suggest we might see (*11*) 11 22H2 breaking cover very early in H2, like even July, so you never know... it could still happen in theory.
