The WiZ Mobile portable lamp comes from a global brand that is perhaps less well known than Philips Hue. Founded in 2017, WiZ joined Signify, one of the world leaders in lighting, in 2019. The brand is an IoT platform for smart lighting and solutions, offering customers the ability to connect their lighting for convenience and ease.
The WiZ product line includes some of the best smart lights and smart plugs and switches, all of which can be controlled via the WiZ v2 app, via Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant too.
I have been using the WiZ mobile portable light in my first and second reception rooms for a few weeks. The fact that it's portable means I enjoyed moving it to other areas of my home, though it mostly sits on a book shelf or table to serve a more functional purpose when I'm at my computer or watching TV. .
I used the touchscreen, the app, and Alexa to control it, and the most useful feature in my experience was the In-App Automations feature. I establish schedules adapted to my routine, and also to have fun. That said, I did appreciate being able to control the light via the touchscreen, as most smart lights only offer control via an app.
Measuring 10,6 x 6,4 x 6,4 inches / 27 x 16,5 x 16,5 cm (H x W x L) and designed with a built-in handle, the light was quite easy to carry . However, its white color made it stand out a bit from the other items on my shelf or table; availability in a softer color to better suit my decor would have been welcome.

When switched off, the WiZ Mobile Portable Lamp looks like a piece of white plastic. Measuring 10,6 x 6,4 x 6,4 inches / 27 x 16,5 x 16,5 cm (H x W x L), it's not huge, but it won't go unnoticed on a shelf. As such, it would have been nice to have a way to color coordinate with the surrounding decor, as it's not the most understated.
The handle located on top of the lamp makes it easy to move around the house, indoors or out, and there is a detachable power cord that can be used to power up or recharge the batteries after use.
The fact that it can be detached from the cable and its weight of 0,65 kg means that the WiZ Smart Light is super portable. Note that it's not weatherproof, but there's nothing to stop you from taking it out into the garden on a nice, dry night to brighten up an outdoor space. Rechargeable batteries will last a few hours, and it will take just as long to recharge.
Switch it on and the WiZ Smart Light transforms from a white plastic piece into a beautiful, bright fixture that will happily fill a space.
The touchscreen offers a degree of control, with more via the WiZ app or via Alexa, Siri and/or Google Assistant (more on that later). Located on top of the light, you can use the panel to turn the light on and off, switch between the different light modes on offer, and cycle through dimming frequencies. My favorite lighting mode was color changing and I preferred it to be quite dim for a more calming effect.
Underneath the light is an on/off switch that can be used during setup, and for those who aren't so sure to use the control panel.

I use the WiZ Mobile portable lamp in my living room and dining room, either as a portable smart lamp or plugged into the mains. Both rooms are around 12m2 and the WiZ light was able to practically fill the spaces with a spectrum of colours. Light brightness, color mode, and power on/off can be done via the touchscreen, while the app offers more features (more on that shortly).
On the device itself, you can choose from three preset lighting modes: warm light, cool white, and multi. My favorite is Multi, dimmed with the slider.
I found it helpful that the WiZ light includes an on/off button on the device itself, providing a quick way to turn off the lights. Most smart lights, including the Philips Hue Gradient Signe, rely on the app for complete control, meaning if you're not someone glued to your phone, you'll need to locate it just to turn off a light.
Connect the WiZ Mobile portable lamp to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and you can use the rather intuitive app for control. The WiZ version doesn't look as polished as the Philips Hue app, which also has more color options, but it can do most things, including setting up automations, adding other compatible devices, and more. You will also have access to a large number of static, dynamic and custom colors. Automations found the feature most useful, as I could schedule the light to come on without lifting a finger.
I also set up the light to work with Alexa to take advantage of voice control. This replaced all the automations I set up in the WiZ app during testing, but the reality is that it will see for itself when the light is on and/or know when you have a set of automations, so you won't be using voice commands. . Either way, the WiZ smart light responded to my voice commands, allowing me to turn the light on/off, change its color, and adjust the brightness.
In terms of general maintenance, there is very little to do. The WiZ light may need to be dusted with a microfiber cloth and the batteries will need to be recharged when using the device as a portable light. The battery will last up to 10 hours in bedtime mode, and you can charge it with the supplied adapter that also powers the light. The WiZ Mobile portable light comes with a 2-year warranty.

It is through the application that you will get the most out of the WiZ Mobile portable lamp. In fact, you can expand your existing smart lighting collection through the app, integrating it into your daily routine.
On-screen instructions offer guidance on how to sign in to the app, and an online agent will help you resolve any issues. I tried and failed multiple times connecting the light to the app; the first because I downloaded an older version of the app. Note that you need to download WiZ v2, not WiZ Connected.
You'll need to turn the light on, enable Bluetooth, and be within 2,4GHz Wi-Fi range. Bluetooth will detect the light first, then connect to your Wi-Fi.
If/when you see the instruction to turn off the light during manual pairing, do it once with the switch on the base and give it a few seconds before bailing out. It was only after a phone call with a support agent that I finally got the light to work, although in this case it is nothing more than a little patience, and turning the device off and on again will not be enough. order.
When your device is found, you know it's "in". At this point, you'll still be paired with Bluetooth, but follow the onscreen instructions and you'll soon be prompted to enter your Wi-Fi information. Make sure you are on 2.4 GHz and near a light so that Wi-Fi, WiZ Mobile Portable Lamp and your smartphone can communicate with each other.
From there, you can continue with the setup through the app. First I changed the name to "big bulb" (it's basically a big bulb), after which I arranged a room, assigned light to said room, and played with the proposed colors.
Select "Library" and you can search for static light, dynamic light and scenes. Scenes is more of a bank of your favorite static and dynamic lights, which will be especially useful if you have a lot of lights in the app and/or a lot of automations that you want to access quickly.
