Microsoft's vision of a passwordless future is about to become a reality now that the company has obtained official FIDO2 certification for Windows 10, Windows Hello, biometric authentication system. The certification refers to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (Windows 10 version 1903), which will be released at the end of May. Currently, Windows 10 users can use Windows Hello to access their devices through fingerprint or facial recognition on their PC. In a blog post announcing Windows Hello Fido2 certification, Group Manager for Microsoft's Cryptography, Identity, and Authentication team on the Azure Core operating system, Yogesh Mehta explained the company's reasoning behind removing the words in these terms: "People don't like passwords because we have to remember them. As a result, we often create easy-to-guess passwords, making you the first target for hackers trying to access your computer or network in the job. "
