Windows 10 lets you never need passwords again

Microsoft's vision of a passwordless future is about to become a reality now that the company has obtained official FIDO2 certification for Windows 10, Windows Hello, biometric authentication system. The certification refers to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (Windows 10 version 1903), which will be released at the end of May. Currently, Windows 10 users can use Windows Hello to access their devices through fingerprint or facial recognition on their PC. In a blog post announcing Windows Hello Fido2 certification, Group Manager for Microsoft's Cryptography, Identity, and Authentication team on the Azure Core operating system, Yogesh Mehta explained the company's reasoning behind removing the words in these terms: "People don't like passwords because we have to remember them. As a result, we often create easy-to-guess passwords, making you the first target for hackers trying to access your computer or network in the job. "

FIDO2 certification

Now that Windows Hello has achieved FIDO2 certification, users can expect to see FIDO-certified logos on new Windows 10 PCs. Windows 10 1903 FIDO2 certification will also extend beyond Microsoft software and users will be able to connect to their Microsoft account and other Mozilla Firefox FIDO-compliant sites. Windows Hello authentication will soon be available in the company's Chromium-based Edge browser. According to Microsoft, users should be able to connect via Windows Hello to their various apps and services including Outlook, Office 365, Skype, OneDrive, Cortana, Xbox Live on PC, Microsoft Store, etc. The use of a traditional password is coming to an end, and thankfully, Microsoft and other tech giants like Google are embracing our future without a password. via ZDNet
