A look at Apple's plans for 2021

Apple will continue to develop its M-series chips; 16-core, 24-core, and 32-core chips will appear in the Mac lineup over the next several years as the company evolves to Macs based on a 3-nanometer (nm) process architecture. The company is also preparing to roll out new features to the Mac. Because you pay less money per chip for M-series processors than you do for Intel Macs, the company has the ability to lower prices and take advantage of new technology. This year, we expect Apple to begin its migration to mini-LED displays on the Mac, starting with a new, redesigned 16-inch. MacBook Pro, the latter will probably disappear as the company releases its own processors in professional Macs. Apple is also poised to introduce the first 23-inch M-series iMacs this year, perhaps expecting a new design for the post-Ive era, likely to mirror the design of an iPad.

IPhone 13: it's not normal now it's normal

I'm never comfortable speculating on the development of the iPhone so soon after a new model comes out. Whichever way you choose to measure it, the iPhone 12 is impressive, and it looks like Apple has achieved what might be considered unlikely: huge sales of a mobile device during a pandemic that's keeping most of us at home. What to expect from the next generation? Perhaps a model without ports, charged wirelessly and with an integrated Touch ID sensor; 120Hz ProMotion displays; a new A15 chip, which will probably offer 20% better performance. LiDAR is expected to become standard on these devices, and the company may be in the process of developing a foldable device for a year.

IPads get more powerful across the range

IPads are also expected to see mini-LED displays this year, starting with the 12,9-inch ones. iPad Pro (although some refute this). It has been speculated that Apple could install its own self-developed 5G modem in the iPad Pro this year as it looks to test the market. It is plausible that the chip supports mmWave, which means that it will have limited use in some markets where this 5G standard has not yet been widely implemented. Current speculation suggests that Apple's entry-level iPad and iPad mini will be thinner and lighter than before.

All Eyes on WWDC (Online)

Just as Apple's upcoming shareholder meeting will be the most well-attended investor call yet, given that it takes place online, WWDC 2021 now looks very likely to become an online show, as it does. did last year. Apple's operating systems will, of course, dominate the series, but the highlights will likely include new ARKit APIs, including smarter machine vision intelligence that can recognize even more items. This is because Apple needs to encourage its developers to start developing new AR experiences to support…

Prank with AR glasses

Speculation suggests that the company is ready to show off its first-generation AR headsets as it continues its journey to launch AR glasses at a later stage. The headphones will be an accessory for iPhones and (according to recent reports) the company has now moved into phase two of product design. Since without apps these products will be of limited use, I suggest we will see a gradual release at WWDC with APIs and a final release later this year.

Apple Watch and AirPods

The 7 Series will introduce new health sensors. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, it makes sense to expect at least the introduction of an FDA-approved blood oximeter, along with continuous blood pressure monitoring. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested a new design for the product this year, while various rumors suggested adding a Touch ID sensor, potentially in the digital crown. As for the AirPOds, expect a U1 chip inside. There has also been speculation about the AirPods Pro Lite, likely around a services/iPad related launch in March.

Are AirTags produced?

We were hoping these would seem too long to be interesting. Apple has a competitor Tile designed to work with its FindMy system and these may appear as early as March, based on current speculation. However, since these things have been discussed since 2019, don't hold your breath.

And Apple TV

An M series chip in an Apple TV? Why not? Apple will want that power to let you run all those AR-based games and augmented TV experiences on TV+ and Apple Arcade. We already know that these chips can comfortably drive Apple's 6K Pro Display XDR, as the Mac mini already does. The push for Apple's service, particularly around TV+, will intensify this year, particularly around March, as the company looks to keep trial subscribers on board. Check back this time next year to see how that speculation stacks up against what will later become historical reality. Here's last year's collection for comparison.
