Disney Plus in May 2022: the highlights

Obi Wan Kenobi

When to stream it: Friday, May 27

The iconic Jedi Master limited series is finally coming to Disney Plus later this month and we honestly can't contain our excitement for it.

After the lukewarm response to The Boba Fett Book, Disney and Lucasfilm need a Star Wars show to get their megafranchise back on track. With the third season of The Mandalorian not coming for quite some time, and other Star Wars projects still in development, fans need something new and exciting to enjoy as well. So the arrival of the Obi-Wan TV show can't come soon enough.

Ewan McGregor reprises his role as Obi-Wan from the much-maligned Star Wars prequel trilogy in this six-episode series. Set 10 years after the events of Episode III (also known as Revenge of the Sith), a traumatized and downtrodden Obi-Wan watches over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine as he seeks to keep the future Jedi Master out of the hands of the Galactic Empire. .

However, when the Sith Inquisitors, led by Rupert Friend's Grand Inquisitor and Moses Ingram's Reva, come looking for all the remaining Jedi, Obi-Wan must stop them from finding Luke. Putting himself in danger, Kenobi leads the Inquisitors in a game of cat and mouse across planets, an adventure that will eventually bring him face to face with former Padawan turned Sith adversary, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen). All together now: *hums Duel of the Fates*.

Episodes 1 and 2 will release simultaneously on May 27, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly thereafter.

Many. Michael Cera and Susannah Flood co-star alongside Schumer.

It sounds pretty cliche as TV shows go, but Life & Beth clearly resonated with viewers. The series currently has a certified 91% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Hulu has already ordered a 10-episode second season. Meanwhile, all 10 episodes of Season 1 will be released simultaneously on May 18.

Another Hulu original, How I Met Your Father, will also land on Disney Plus in international territories on May 11.

Gun

When to air: Wednesday, May 31 (available on FX in the US)

Based on Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones's memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, this Disney Plus/FX miniseries is the latest project from acclaimed director Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire).

The six-episode limited series traces the rise and fall, over three decades, of the infamous British punk rock band whose brash and notoriously critical of the establishment tunes have shocked the entire UK and shed light on government and elitist issues. The band was never far from the spotlight whenever they walked offstage, with a variety of high-profile pushes involving frontman Johnny Rotten and the tragic events surrounding the death of Sid Vicious.

Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes), Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls) and Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams are among its significant cast. Toby Wallace (The Society) will play Jones, who was a founding member of the band before he left in 1978. He expects plenty of raucous, frenetic and restless incidents throughout and shaped by Boyle's trademark directing style.
