Spotify gets a new AI DJ with the help of the creators of ChatGPT

AI takes over technology now. They're no longer just an assistant on our phones and smart speakers, and after getting the search engines talking and winning photo contests, they're now going to DJ for Spotify as well.

Spotify, one of the best music streaming services on the planet, has just unveiled its new DJ feature based on OpenAI technology (exactly the same team behind ChatGPT) that will perform just like the real thing, but with its list of adapted reproduction.

Premium subscribers in the US and Canada (using Spotify on their Android or iOS devices) should now be able to see the DJ card in their music stream. If you can't do this now, you may need to wait a day or two for the update to take effect. Once you're there, tap on that option and AI DJ will start playing tracks based on the music you usually like. In addition to this, he will give short commentary between songs, just like a real radio host.

The DJ's voice is modeled after Xavier 'X' Jernigan, the communicator on Spotify's morning show The Get Up, though Spotify calls him the "first model," suggesting that other AI communicators (perhaps, with their unique styles) will be released in the future.

As seen in the above trailer, the AI explains why it chose certain songs, such as saying it'll go back to music you "had a lot of in XNUMX," though it can supposedly comment on whether a track was released recently and gives you an artist. information (with the help of the expertise provided by Spotify's human editors). And if you don't like the AI environment, you can tap the DJ icon at the bottom right of the screen to try something different.

This feature looks really cool, and if the AI voice sounds as realistic in real life as it does in the trailer, it could be a great way to enjoy your Spotify library. It should also be a good way to discover new tracks, with the press release (opens in a new tab) noting that your DJ is going to help you find new tracks and artists that he thinks you'll like.

DJ is currently only in beta, that's why it has a limited release, so expect some glitches here and there. Although as an Apple Music listener, I was already persuaded by this ad to give Spotify a try so I could try DJing.
