Spotify is rolling out another new feature, but not the one everyone wants

Spotify's latest feature has started its testing phase and is now rolling out to a limited number of users. In theory, it should help its listeners dramatically broaden their musical horizons in much the same way as other features that have launched in recent months.

WhatHifi reports (opens in a new tab) that the new featured curators system recommends user playlists curated by popular Spotify influencers, personally selected by the company as users who have created popular public playlists, either followed by many subscribers or with unique and exclusive content. interesting stories. say through the music that populates your playlists.

It's another welcome extension to Spotify's already great playlist features, and while whether or not it'll help most users find new music to love remains to be seen, at least it's an interesting way to highlight songs. and records recommended by notable music lovers.

Another feather in Spotify's hat?

Spotify has been admirably consistent in finding creative ways to present its monolithic library of music and podcasts to its subscribers. Spotify Blend recently got a big update, for example, allowing listeners to create playlists with up to 10 friends, or their favorite artists, instead of just one other person. .

Elsewhere, Spotify has renamed its Greenroom feature Spotify Live and integrated it into the main app, allowing listeners to join live conversations with popular artists and content creators, similar to the Twitter Spaces feature seen found on the ever-popular social media giant.

Spotify has also strengthened its presence in podcasts this year, significantly expanding its repertoire by acquiring Chartable and Podsights, two large podcast marketing and analytics companies. In fact, it may have been the spark that caused YouTube to create its own podcast game.

That said, though, subscribers will no doubt be wondering where the elusive Spotify HiFi stands amidst the expansion of all these already established features. The company insists the feature is still available, but licensing difficulties have delayed it indefinitely.

Meanwhile, rival platforms like Apple Music and Amazon Music HD have taken the Hi-Res Audio ball and gone with it, both offering huge music collections that support the premium feature. Apple Music, in particular, also offers Spatial Audio at no additional cost, which is probably one of the main reasons why the number of subscribers is increasing rapidly on Spotify.

While we're sure Spotify HiFi will be released (hopefully before the end of the year), we can understand the frustration listeners may feel at its continued absence. Sure, add-ons like Featured Curators are nice, but they arguably don't rank high on the list when it comes to the most-requested Spotify features like Hi-Res Audio.
