Showmax Pro South Africa: news, prices

After much anticipation, Showmax Pro is finally in South Africa. After its launch in all the countries on our border and some further north, Showmax has officially sent a notice to subscribers about the new premium tier and content offered. Showmax, a MultiChoice product, adds news, sports and a variety of entertainment to this new option. Although more expensive, this is probably a better service for those who love soccer but don't want to pay the high amount required for a DStv subscription that includes sports.

What's new

Showmax Pro will include the existing Showmax entertainment service and add channels of music, news and live sports streaming from SuperSport. New features include all matches from the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and PSL, as well as a wide range of live sporting events, including IAAF athletics, professional boxing and the world's biggest marathons. South Africa also has access to swimming, extreme sports, esports, basketball, triathlon, horse racing, CFE, netball and hockey. These additions are a huge asset to the platform as live sport has been a struggle for those without the full DStv package and a big reason many have stuck with it. Those who are holding on to their DStv subscription because of football can finally say goodbye to the full package and opt for Showmax Pro. The music additions aren't nearly as exciting or engaging as sports, as the two added channels are quite niche. Trace Urban and Trace Gospel were probably picked for their appeal to this region, but it's unlikely many of them would switch to Pro just for this benefit. News is another great addition, but not one that exclusively appeals to users. The channels: Africa News, Euronews and Newzroom Afrika are a mix of local and international channels.

Award

Showmax Pro will cost R449 per month, Showmax Pro Mobile costs R225 per month. This is a good deal for those who pay a higher premium to access sports channels with DStv. It's great, but the exclusion of rugby makes it a little less appealing to most sports fans in the country.
