Roku has added Discovery Plus to its lineup of streaming apps in the UK and Ireland, following the app's launch on Roku streaming devices in the US, Canada and Brazil.
As reported by Pocket-lint, the Discovery Plus streaming app can now be downloaded directly from the Roku Channel Store in the UK and Ireland. You can also subscribe directly from your Roku device, with subscriptions starting at $4.99/$5.99 per month. New customers can also opt for a 7-day free trial if you want to try Discovery Plus before purchasing the monthly subscription.
"At Discovery, our goal is to share our best brands and best stories with viewers around the world, where and when they consume content," Gabe Sauerhoff, Discovery's senior vice president of digital distribution, told Pocket-lint.
"We are delighted to expand our global partnership with Roku and bring everything Discovery Plus has to offer to its subscribers in the UK and Republic of Ireland."
Discovery Plus is a fantastic channel if you want to watch some of the best documentaries and edutainment shows like Planet Earth and MythBusters, as well as subscription exclusive Discovery Plus Originals like The Prison Breaker.
This is welcome news for Roku owners after a difficult patch, which included a tumultuous upheaval in the availability of the YouTube app on the platform, not to mention the cancellation of a failed update that has caused popular apps like Netflix and Disney also make it impossible for some users to watch with some Roku devices.
While Discovery Plus has been available for download on other popular streaming services, like Amazon's Fire TV Cube and Apple TV 4K, its arrival on Roku has meant owners of the line of devices for some time now. to shell out for a new, more expensive gearbox.
