One of the best OLED TVs finally arrives in the United States

In the United States, we can get OLED TVs from two companies: LG and Sony. They offer excellent quality, but leave us with limited options and are still expensive. That's about to change, as Funai just showed off Phillips-branded OLED TVs at CES 2020. In particular, Funai introduced Philips OLED 804 series OLED TVs. So what's so exciting about this? For one, these are five-star TVs in our book. It's not unusual with Philips OLED TVs either, as a quick flashback shows the Philips OLED 803 and Philips OLED+ 984 getting perfect marks in our reviews.

What is offered?

The Philips OLED 804 series includes the latest OLED panels from Funai. In addition to the excellent contrast ratios offered by OLED display technology and sharp 4K resolution, these TVs offer plenty of HDR options with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ formats. They also include Dolby Atmos audio decoding and run on Android TV for immediate access to your favorite streaming services. The TVs include the third-generation P5 processor, which does a great job of upscaling standard HD content to appear in high-resolution. It also offers a convincing HDR fit to SDR content. They also have a unique feature that sets them apart from the pack. Philips Ambilight diffuses colored lights on the back of your TV that match some of the colors on the screen. This feature might not be for everyone, but the colorful ambient lighting it provides behind your TV can positively affect the viewing experience in our experience, and can even help your eyes when viewing bright content in a dark environment. If you have Philips Hue lighting in your home, you can also sync it with your TV. You can find more information about Ambilight here. These are all good news for buyers in the OLED TV market as Philips and Funai are the source of real options that will give you more choice than LG and Sony. However, Philips OLED TVs still drop in the ballpark for over €1,000. Fortunately, cheaper OLED options could also arrive this year. Vizio's OLED TVs are coming, and OLED could compete with TCL 6 Series Mini-LED TVs.
