Institutional bitcoin broker NYDIG has launched a benefits program that allows employees of participating companies to convert a percentage of each pay stub into bitcoin.
- Employees enrolled in the Bitcoin Savings Plan can choose the percentage of their salary they wish to automatically convert to bitcoin, and the crypto is held in NYDIG's cold storage system with no transaction or storage fees.
- Cryptocurrency exchanges Strike and Coinbase launched related platforms last year, but did not require an employer to register for a worker to take advantage. The NYDIG Bitcoin Savings Plan, on the other hand, requires employer participation.
- Among the list of companies offering the service to their employees at launch are Houston Rockets and Tilman Fertitta's Landry restaurants, MVB Bank, bitcoin miner Iris Energy and crypto data company The Tie.
