Netflix is about to lose another iconic sci-fi series

American Netflix subscribers are about to say goodbye to one of the most beloved science fiction television shows.

Starting April 1, Star Trek: The Next Generation will leave the service, meaning viewers will only have about three weeks to enjoy it.

Star Trek: The Next Generation ran from 1987 to 1984, with 178 episodes spanning seven seasons. Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton and Denise Crosby in key roles, it is set in the 24th and follows the adventures of the USS Enterprise as it explores the Milky Way galaxy, all the while facing a series of unpleasant new acquaintances.

The show was a great success. It consistently drew 12 million viewers in its fifth season, and the characters returned in four subsequent films, Star Trek Generations in 1994, Star Trek: First Contact in 1996, Star Trek: Insurrection in 1998, and Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002.

At one point, Netflix was the go-to for Star Trek fans, with the streaming service offering just about every movie and several TV spin-offs, but nothing more...

Why is Star Trek: The Next Generation leaving Netflix?

Fans of the show will have known this was coming.

Netflix lost three Star Trek franchises at the end of September 2021, with Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise leaving the service.

Paramount, which has overseen all of Star Trek since the late 1960s, brings everything in the franchise together on its streaming service, Paramount Plus. Licenses for other streaming services, most of which were agreed before Paramount launched its streaming platform, have been slow to complete. But it's out there...

Are there any Star Trek series left on Netflix?

Yes, but only one, Deep Space Nine. At this time, there is no end date for this show to stream on Netflix, but Paramount's strategy is so clear that it could be seen from the darkest remnants of space.

Soon, for your fix of Spock, Picard and the rest of the gang, you'll need to head to Paramount Plus.
