Mozilla VPN is now available on all platforms, including Mac and Linux

Mozilla has announced that its VPN solution is now available for users of Mac and Linux devices, following its release on Windows, iOS, and Android last year. Mozilla VPN is currently available in six countries (US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia), with more regions coming soon. Like many VPNs, Mozilla's offering uses the WireGuard protocol to encrypt network activity and hide the user's IP address. WireGuard's use of high-speed cryptographic primitives also means that Mozilla VPN users should be able to take advantage of high network speeds. Mozilla VPN provides device-level encryption, using over 280 servers in over 30 countries, promising no bandwidth restrictions or logging of your online activity. Signing up for VPN costs €4,99 per month and connects up to five devices.

The importance of VPNs

VPN usage skyrocketed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. With COVID-19 forcing many people to work remotely, VPNs have allowed employees to protect their online connections and access their desktops and other resources from home. Mozilla also emphasizes that VPNs are worth adopting even if you can't work remotely. Anyone, for example, who uses public Wi-Fi networks would benefit from the added privacy that a VPN solution provides, and VPNs even offer benefits to people who primarily connect online using their home network. Mozilla is perhaps best known for its Firefox web browser, but the company also offers a few other products online, including its Pocket app for saving web articles to read later. With its VPN service now available for both Mac and Linux users, the company has pretty much covered every platform, but it will face stiff competition from the many other VPN solutions available.
