Microsoft Intune Suite consolidates endpoint protection and management

Microsoft has released the general availability of the Microsoft Intune Suite, a consolidation of its endpoint management and security solutions to optimize protection for on-premises and cloud-connected endpoints.

The consolidation aims to serve as a single provider for all endpoint security needs so customers have single scans, rather than multiple disparate data sets, with constant visibility into potential vulnerabilities and anomalies, according to an article. from the company blog.

"Microsoft Intune is an industry-leading unified endpoint management solution that organizations depend on to ensure their devices, operating systems and applications are up to date, protected and working," said Michael Wallent, vice president of corporate administration, at the Blog. mail.

The Intune Suite, first announced at Microsoft Ignite 2022, runs a customer-specific tiered subscription model.

Intune's core capabilities will include managing cloud-connected devices across multiple operating systems, including Windows, Android, Mac, iOS, and Linux. It will also include Microsoft Configuration Manager for managing on-premise endpoints such as Windows PCs and servers.

Intune will also provide endpoint analytics to help IT administrators understand and change the user experience. The new product will come with features such as "remote help" to allow IT support teams to remotely diagnose and resolve problems with a user's desktop and mobile devices, using the existing corporate identity. Remote Help is currently only available for Windows users, but it will soon be available for Android and Mac devices in future releases.

Currently in preview, Endpoint Privilege Management will be part of the Intune suite in April and will enable organizations to automate the controlled elevation of standard Windows users to appropriate privileges without compromising security.

To streamline access, Intune added Microsoft Tunnel for mobile app management, which routes protected access from personal mobile devices to corporate resources through a micro virtual private network (VPN). This capability has also been extended to specialty Intune devices, including AR/VR headsets, portable headsets, conference room meeting devices, and large smart display devices.

In the future, Intune will add Advanced App Management to provide an enterprise app catalog and management tools to simplify the discovery, deployment and automatic updating of apps to mitigate the risks associated with out-of-date apps, according to Wallent. Later this year, Intune will offer a cloud certificate management solution for issuing and managing Wi-Fi and VPN certificates from Intune to devices without on-premises infrastructure.

Intune Suite features will be available as tiered subscriptions. The Intune bundle can be purchased as an add-on to any plan that includes Intune, which most customers get through their Microsoft 365 subscription. The individual solutions in the bundle will also be available as stand-alone add-ons for Intune.

The three subscription levels for Intune include Plan 1, Plan 2, and Intune Suite. The basic level of Intune called Plan 1 will include basic Intune functionality and will be available to customers with Microsoft 365 E3, E5, F1, and F3 subscriptions; Business Mobility + Security E3 and E5; and Business Premium packages. This subscription is priced at €8 per user per month.

Plan 2 will be an add-on, available only to Plan 1 subscribers and will only offer advanced features like specialized device management and Microsoft Tunnel for mobile app management. For this tier, subscribers will need to pay €4 per user per month on top of the cost of Plan 1.
