The new 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro could launch with macOS Catalina

Apple could be preparing to release a new 2019 MacBook Air and a 2019-inch 13 MacBook Pro with its upcoming MacOS 10.15 Catalina software later this year. The rumor comes from Jeff Lin, an analyst at IHS Markit, who published the Emerging PC Market Tracker. The report is only available to subscribers, but Forbes reported details in the report that suggest Apple will update the 13,3-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air Retina with new processors in September 2019. The new laptops they will also ship with Apple's upcoming operating system, macOS 10.15, according to Lin.

Update dates

In the report, Lin claims that the 13-inch MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar is the model that gets the processor upgrade. The version with Touch Bar was updated in May. Meanwhile, the MacBook Air was last updated in October 2018. Getting the latest Intel processors should give both laptops a decent performance boost, if these rumors are correct. This is the same report that suggests that Apple will also release a new 16-inch MacBook Pro this year, albeit without the recently announced OLED display. So we expect to see new hardware from Apple later this year. However, as MacRumors points out, while these rumors suggest a series of hardware upgrades in September, Apple doesn't typically release new laptops during this month, but generally waits until October.
