3 more Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games have been added to the Nintendo Switch Online Premium Expansion Bundle tier.
The games are now free to play for any and all subscribers and span a variety of genres. They include: Light Crusader, Super Fantasy Zone, and Alien Soldier.
Light Crusader is an isometric fantasy action RPG that combines platforming and puzzle-solving elements. You will accept the role of a noble knight and you will make your way through a series of dungeons and save the kidnapped townspeople. It's all very heroic.
Super Fantasy Zone, on the other hand, is a side-scrolling shooter game that involves making your way through colorful levels already before making your way further through the boss at the end of each one.
Alien Soldier is also a side-scrolling shooter, but it's known to be notoriously difficult among Genesis enthusiasts. It plays like a boss race, throwing twenty-five bosses at you in sequence and punctuating them with shorter, simpler levels to give yourself some free time. You also play as a cyborg bird named Epsilon-Eagle, who is nothing but unique. On top of this, it's created by Treasure, a developer responsible for some of the best Genesis games, including Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy.
Adding all 3 games to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack brings the total number of Sega Genesis games to twenty-two.
When the expansion bundle was released last October, it only included fourteen games. This is only the second update to add more titles to the service, with the preceding December update adding Altered Beast, Sword of Vermillion, and more.
Recently, the traditional N64 racing title F-Zero X was added to the service, as well as some form of online multiplayer and, interestingly enough, HD Rumble functionality.

Analysis: something for everyone
More games for a subscription service is always a good thing, but quantity is doubly valuable when there is plurality. Nintendo clearly offered that here. Light Crusader will appeal to action RPG enthusiasts who want a glimpse into the early days of the genre, way before Demon laid the groundwork for any and all isometric point-and-click dungeon crawlers. come.
Super Fantasy Zone is a pretty common platformer, but it's clearly one of the more quirky shooters to launch on the Genesis. Meanwhile, Alien Soldier is worlds away from the Super Fantasy Zone. The game is very challenging and perfectly captures a period of gameplay where the developers weren't afraid to take a swing.
It's pretty hard to ignore the fact that these 3 games are going to be largely unknown outside of the more dedicated Genesis circles, which may disappoint certain subscribers of the Nintendo Switch online expansion bundle. But the biggest Genesis games have already hit the service, including Contra: Hard Corps, Altered Beast, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Gunstar Heroes, and Streets of Rage XNUMX.
Don't expect considerably more attention-grabbing games to be added to the service. There aren't many left.
