LG's webOS smart TV platform is perhaps the best of its kind, so we were pleased to learn that the operating system was being rolled out to third parties earlier this year. However, the latest firmware update for non-LG webOS displays only improves the proposition. Streaming apps like Disney Plus, Vudu, Pandora, HBO Max and Sling TV are now coming to the webOS platform on non-LG TVs, helping build third-party webOS solutions, designed by Blaupunkt, Polaroid, Seiki and Skytech. embellished just like the real thing. These apps will change depending on your area in mind: UK viewers only get an upgrade with Disney Plus, while the other services listed are largely US-specific. We're told that "since September Support for a number of premium content services, including Disney+, Vudu, Pandora, HBO Max, and Sling TV, will be added through the end of this year.Disney+, which is quickly becoming a global favorite, will be free on TVs with webOS in each and every market where the service is offered today." Importantly, the update shows progressive support for webOS outside of LG's hardware lines, like its high-end OLED TVs, and could help webOS gain a following among third-party manufacturers as much as the Roku platform. If nothing else, it shows a desire to normalize the webOS experience whether you're using an LG TV or another brand. It also comes shortly after support for Amazon's Alexa AI voice assistant on webOS TVs. This particular support hit American screens first, followed shortly by European and Asian territories.
