11th Gen Intel chips offer a revolutionary security upgrade

Intel has offered a major update for its 2021th generation Core vPro processors, which are designed to protect against hardware-level security threats. At CES XNUMX, the company revealed that its new business-focused processors will offer built-in features capable of detecting ransomware, which is considered one of the most powerful cyber threats out there today. Technologies called Intel Threat Detection (TDT) and Hardware Shield will run directly on the processor, providing out-of-the-box protection regardless of software, firmware and operating system layers. Intel also announced a new partnership with security firm Cybereason, which will integrate Intel TDT into its security platform in the coming months. According to the two companies, this is the first example of hardware used to detect the presence of ransomware. “The combination of the best hardware, software and security insights gives defenders end-to-end visibility essential to ending the era of double racketeering that currently costs companies hundreds of millions each year,” said Lior Div, CEO of Cybereason.

As ransomware has evolved, it is becoming more adept at attacking vulnerabilities in security software, Intel says. For this reason, a more holistic approach is needed. According to Intel's product sheet, TDT analyzes CPU metrics and behaviors to detect threats in real time, with negligible effect on overall performance. These threats can include "polymorphic malware, fileless scripts, cryptomining, ransomware, and other targeted attacks," the company wrote. “As threats are detected in real time, Intel TDT sends a high-fidelity signal that can trigger remediation workflows. " Intel Hardware Shield, on the other hand, is said to limit lateral movement once an infection is detected, preventing malicious code injection by locking the BIOS. "Ransomware was a major security threat in 2020, and the Software alone is not enough to protect against ongoing threats," said Stephanie Hallford, general manager of Intel commercial client platforms. "Our new 11th generation Core vPro mobile platform delivers industry-first threat detection capability enabled by industry silicon, providing much-needed hardware protection against these types of attacks."
