Wireless headphones are about to get even better for gaming

Qualcomm announced two new audio platforms at MWC 2022 that will improve wireless and true wireless headsets, including delivering better performance when gaming.

The Qualcomm S5 Sound Platform and S3 Sound Platform offer twice the computing power of their predecessors, while reducing power consumption by 20% and latency by 25%.

The Game Mode feature reduces audio latency to 68ms and improves in-game voice chat.

They join the QCC3065x SoC (system on a chip) announced last year, which means more options for headphone manufacturers.

There's also support for Bluetooth 5.3, which again reduces power consumption. This means future wireless headsets using either of these platforms will be able to last longer on a single charge, while still delivering game audio in tune with the action on screen.

Snapdragon sound included

The platforms also benefit from Snapdragon Sound Technology's portfolio of features, including 16-bit lossless CD-quality audio, Qualcomm's third-generation adaptive noise cancellation, and 24-bit and 96-bit Hi-Res Audio support. kHz

You can expect to see the first wireless headphones with the S5 sound platform and S3 sound platform in the second half of 2022.

Of all these features, we're really excited to see wireless headphones and headphones that can support truly lossless audio – it's an industry first and could transform the sound quality of Bluetooth headphones.

Qualcomm says the audio will be "mathematically bit-for-bit exact," meaning you won't lose any data over a wireless connection. Until now, the bit rate required to deliver this type of high-quality audio has not been available over Bluetooth.

In other words, you can expect sound that faithfully reproduces the quality that the musicians and engineers were working with in the studio at the time of recording.

It may sound like something that would only interest hardcore audiophiles, but lossless Hi-Res Audio has grown in popularity over the past year, with major music streaming services like Apple Music and Amazon Music HD providing lossless streaming for their music. subscribers in no time. extra charge.
