Intel Arc Alchemist GPUs are optimized for anything but cryptocurrency mining

Intel has already revealed that its Arc A380 discrete graphics card is optimized for the latest and most popular games, which is sure to please all but one group.

As reported by Tom's Hardware(opens in a new tab), YouTuber DJ Mines said he was running several popular Ethereum mining software such as NiceHashMining, trex miner, lolminer, and teamreeminer, and none of them worked. It seems that the Arc A380 does not support crypto mining at all.

And considering that Ethereum has lost about 70% of its value in 2022, this is another blow to the crypto mining industry. They're also not the only graphics cards trying to thwart crypto mining. Nvidia has introduced its Lite Hash Rate mods on its top graphics cards, slowing down the hash rate to discourage mining, though miners have successfully thwarted much of this work in the months since its release.

Analysis: it is still early to judge

Recently, there have been concerns about the resurgence of cryptocurrency mining and the rising cost of graphics cards, as Bitcoin and Ethereum have risen slightly in value, although they are far from their peak levels.

But that's not a guarantee either. Although Ethereum recently received a huge 20% boost, while Bitcoin recovered a modest 5%, it remains to be seen if this resurgence will last or if these prices will continue to fall.

And considering the writing has been on the wall for a while now as the currency was getting slower and more expensive. And for the benefit of both the GPU market and the environment itself, it may be best that the cryptocurrency's decline not only continues, but accelerates.
