Peloton treadmills lose one of their most popular free features
Peloton has removed a key feature from its Tread+ treadmills, which means owners can no longer just start running if they don't have an expensive Peloton All Access subscription. Tread+ owners, including game developer Brianna Wu, have noted that the Just Run feature is no longer available, leaving the premium machine unusable without an additional $39 / $39 monthly payment. To remedy the situation, Peloton is offering a free three-month all-access subscription to all Tread+ owners and intends to reactivate Just Run for non-subscribers very soon. Tread+ was only sold in the United States, and all users who want to request a free three-month subscription or have their fees waived can call the company's support hotline at 866-678. -9129.

PC Magazine writer @Michael_Kan exchanged emails with @onepeloton and got direct responses. They plan to reactivate your ability to use your treadmill for "Just Run" without a subscription. I have to assume that public pressure is the reason they made this commitment. https://t.co/Q4nZpJ86uC https://t.co/dFqnpnBKT5 June 22, 2021 See More However, as PCMag reports, many treadmill owners on Twitter are upset that the company didn't clarify the situation sooner .

Security measures

The change is for a software update that requires users to enter an access code before the treadmill will begin to move. This new feature, Tread Lock, is one of several security measures Peloton has taken in recent months. In May, the company began a voluntary recall of all of its treadmills following reports of serious injuries. Some users have been injured when the screen detached and fell off the Tread during use, and a child died after being thrown under a Tread+. The company offered to reimburse all owners, but also provided other options for anyone who wanted to keep their machine. Tread owners can request a visit from an engineer, who will repair the touch screen of the device to make it more secure. Owners of any of the treadmills can also request a visit to help move the treadmill to another room in their home away from pets and children. Although they have wheels, the Tread Peloton weighs 290 lbs (131 kg) and the Tread + 455 lbs (206 kg), so it would be unwise to move them on their own. Peloton is also working on a mechanical security update for the Tread+. Details are not yet known, but it could involve installing a barrier at the rear of the machine to prevent anything from getting caught in the slats. Today's best Fitbit deals
