Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card could arrive in October (but don't count on it)

Nvidia's RTX 4090 is still slated to debut among all next-gen Lovelace graphics cards, with the GPU expected to arrive in October according to the latest rumors, but there are a few worrying factors that could get in the way of that plan.

YouTube leaker Moore's Law is Dead (opens in a new tab) (MLID) has been busy discussing the RTX 4090 and claims it will be a 450W graphics card (as previously rumored), and that it will most likely arrive in October, or at least that's Team Green's current plan according to a source.

Another source confirms this theory, which is on schedule at the moment, but nothing is "100% decided" at this point. In other words, there seems to be a risk of things slipping, especially considering what else MLID talks about in their latest video.

Namely that graphics card makers are "desperate" for how much RTX 3000 stock they need to move, as we've heard many times before, and apparently Nvidia is working harder to find solutions to help get rid of this excess stock. beforehand. Lovelace GPUs are coming (and current generation cards will be much harder to move).

The other factor that should come into play here, and could end up being a huge drag on new card sales, is the arrival of older mining GPUs on the market, because apparently we haven't seen anything yet in terms of concerns. used graphics cards sold on eBay.

Supposedly, the 'overwhelming majority' of these old mining cards from Asia have yet to make it to the Western market, and when they do, it could make it even more difficult for Nvidia's card-making partners to sell Ampere shares in time sooner. of the launch of Lovelace.

Analysis: Nvidia is listening to its partners and acting now

So there's clearly a lot of concern from Nvidia's partners that they could be left dry with excess RTX 3000 stock, to the point where, according to MLID's sources, cardmakers apparently don't want to anymore. buy current generation GPU from Nvidia. until they start shedding their existing inventory, even if it means risking the amount of next-gen Lovelace GPU allocation they get.

Nvidia has taken a serious look at these issues now, according to MLID, and indeed we've seen recent evidence of them. Earlier this week, the RTX 3090 and 3090 Ti, as well as the RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti, received large price cuts from Nvidia, to the tune of €500 for the 3090 Ti in the US, and € 100 off the 3080 Ti, plus the addition of a four-game bundle to tempt shoppers even further.

If what we're hearing about a possible flood of old used mining graphics cards from Asia materializes, with some miners abandoning crypto altogether or others switching to ASICs, then we can probably expect significantly bigger price drops in the near future. as downward pressure on prices intensifies.

There's always the chance that Nvidia will delay the release of the RTX 4090 from October, of course, if moving the stock RTX 3000 becomes an even more troublesome task for its partners. As MLID's sources claim, Nvidia is predicting this month now, but it's not 100% on it. Also, the Lovelace stock hitting shelves in the first month may be slim - a "real quantity" of GPUs will be available before December, according to MLID, but that seems to point to November before us. I don't see enough next-gen cards on the shelves.

Another interesting point raised in this video is that apparently Nvidia is still undecided on the beefiest version of the RTX 4090, and whether it will be the 4090 Ti or even a new RTX Titan.

No doubt there will be a more powerful card using the full AD102 chip, but whether it comes soon like the 4090 Ti version will depend on the exact power of AMD's flagship RDNA 3. In other words, if Nvidia needs a performance answer, the 4090 Ti will come along quickly (with an assumed increase in power consumption of around 600W).

If there isn't an urgent need for a 4090 Ti to support AMD's next-gen flagship, that will come later, giving Nvidia time to further refine it (or perhaps Team Green will release a Titan instead, as mentioned). , loaded with 48 GB of VRAM, which has been rumored in the past). In short, the way forward regarding the full AD102 chip is yet to be determined and will depend on what AMD produces for its high-end RDNA 3 offering; and it certainly makes sense.
